2019 Environmental Education Grants

[48 Pa.B. 7054]
[Saturday, November 3, 2018]

The Department of Environmental Protection (Department) announces a new round of Environmental Education Grants for 2019. The grant round is now open and all applications must be completed and submitted by January 11, 2019. Two types of grants will be offered including general grants that will be funded up to $25,000 and mini-grants that will be funded up to $3,000.

Over the Environmental Education Grants Program's (Program) tenure, grantees have included schools and school districts, nonprofit organizations, colleges and universities, county conservation districts and businesses. These grant-funded organizations have used the funding to address important environmental education topics within their communities. Priority topics include water, climate change and environmental justice.

The Program was established by the Environmental Education Act (35 P.S. §§ 7521—7528), which mandates setting aside 5% of the pollution fines and penalties the Department collects annually for environmental education in this Commonwealth. In its 25-year history, the Program has funded more than $12 million in environmental education grants.

The grant guidelines and application instructions are available on the Department's web site at www.dep.pa.gov (select ''Citizens,'' then ''Environmental Education,'' then ''Grants''). Applications must be submitted online through the eGrants system at https://dep.pa.gov/EE_Grants.

Questions concerning the grant solicitation should be directed to the Environmental Education Center at gimyers@pa.gov or (717) 705-3767.
