[Saturday, June 24, 2017]
The Work Experience for High School Students with Disabilities Act (act) (43 P.S. §§ 683.1—683.7) designates the Department of Labor and Industry's (Department) Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) as the lead agency for developing connections between local education agencies and public and private employers to promote the successful transition from school to competitive, integrated employment. The act charges OVR with: providing pre-employment transition services; facilitating the process of job and career development, focusing on job-skills training; job coaching; competitive, integrated work-based learning experiences; and counseling opportunities for enrollment in post-secondary education programs. The act requires OVR to publish information pertaining to the implementation of the act in each county in this Commonwealth for the prior calendar quarter on its web site 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter. The Department is making notice of the appropriation of sufficient funds to carry out the provisions of the act and proposes initial reporting of information effective July 1, 2017.
